Abby & Kate {Birth Story}

They are here!
We are just SO excited that our sweet twins are here!

Last Tuesday was my 36 week appointment where we scheduled a c section to be on the following Thursday august 10th. The girls were both breech and I wasn't showing much progress. It actually helped my patience a little to have an end date and I thought a lot less about them coming on their own.
Thursday evening August 3rd we were at a family birthday party and I was feeling a little uncomfortable but nothing a piece few pieces of cake couldn't cure. Once most everyone had left and we were the only ones at my inlaws, I told trevor that I wanted to leave and of course he was like, "Why? Are you having contractions?"
Well, I had been having contractions but was kind of trying to ignore them.
After some convincing from Trevor and his mom and a call to the birth center we headed into the hospital to get checked.
We arrived and got hooked up by about 10pm and my contractions were 7-9 minutes apart but I was only dilated to "almost" 2cm. I was annoyed and sure they would send me home. After an hour and another check with very minimal progress I was prepared to be sent home. To my surprise, the doctor told the nurse to keep me over night to monitor and we would check again in the morning.
Around 3am the contractions picked up to 2-3 minutes apart and I was hardly sleeping.
at 5am I was surprised to see my doctor come in the door. They noted my close contractions and obvious discomfort but and did the check. After all night of contracting I was only dilated to 3cm.
Again, I was sure they were going to send me home.
Then my doctor said, "looks like a laboring uterus to me, lets prepare to do a c section within the next 1-1 1/2 hours.
I was in total shock!
Quickly, I called Trevor (because he had gone back to his moms to get some sleep since there wasn't much progress) and everyone started getting stuff ready around me.
I'm not sure how much detail I really care to remember but here are a few things that stuck out:
-it is weird to be awake in an operating room
-spinal blocks and whatever other medicine I was given makes me SICK
-when they say you don't feel pain, just "pressure", well that is still considered pain in my book
-I wish I had a recording of the Trevor's face and look of AWE through the surgery

As they pulled Abby out, she wasn't crying and it worried me a little. They had already planned to wisk her off to the other room where the warmer and everything was set up but I had no idea what was happening or if she was ok. Later I found out that she was struggling to breathe on her own and they were close to doing chest compressions as Trevor entered her room.

Next came Kate screaming her little lungs out. She stayed in the same room as me (but I couldn't see her)and it was such a relief to hear she was doing great, especially after the comment was made that she had "such a short cord".

August 4, 2017
Abby was born at 6:41am at 5lbs and 17 3/4in.
Kate was born at 6:42am at 4lb 10oz and 17 1/2 in.

I was in recovery for a while and didn't get to see either girl at all until a few hours later. Kate was brought to my room as soon as she had everything checked out but Abby was kept in the nursery (there isn't a NICU at our hospital) and put on oxygen for about 6 hours. Every time they would try to take it off, her levels would drop very low and they would have to put it back on. There was only a certain amount of time they were allowed to keep her on oxygen at our hospital before they were supposed to transfer to Twin Falls NICU and we were getting nervous that that might be a reality. Finally they decided to bring Abby down to my room. They turned off the oxygen and let me hold her and amazingly she was breathing on her own and keeping her levels up! We were so happy that our little Ab was a fighter and able to stay with us at the hospital.

Both girls are doing amazing and the only other little bump in the road we have hit is that both of their oxygen levels drop low while sitting in a carseat position for too long. So for now we were sent home with "lay flat" carseats to use for 2 weeks until the girls can get a little bigger and stronger to hold themselves in the right position while in a regular carseat!

Easter 2017

We had an excellent Easter attending Calorie Bowen's mission homecoming talk and followed with lunch and an easter egg hunt at the Bowen's!
I decided not to pull out my camera and annoy my kids all day so here are just a couple from Easter morning before church!
Happy Easter!

TWINS!

We're all kind of freaking out over here!

Today we all went in for my 20 week ultrasound! We were anticipating the news of a girl because our doctor had used a hand ultrasound machine at my 16 week appointment and said, "If I were a betting man I'd say it was a girl!"
Well, he was half way right.

I was in the ultrasound room with Emma waiting for Trevor to come in so she had already started the measurements (I was trying so hard to find legs and confirm it was a girl!), then Trevor walked in with the boys. The ultrasound girl then said, "well mom and dad, it's going to take a little bit longer for the ultrasound today."
(insert longest pause of my life when my heart sunk and I thought something was terribly wrong)
Then she said, "Because there are two heads on here today!"

I laugh/cried
Trevor said, "ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?"
and Emma said, "I'm freaking out!"

So yup, Im going to have 5 children in 5 months.

Yes, I already had one set of these P.J.'s in anticipation of an announcement picture today and yes, I had to run to walmart right away to buy another pair.

I'm freaking out.
